Hero Certified Burgers is a domestic restaurant chain based in Canada.
Hero Burgers state on its website that they have items on the menu that are halal compliant. It says, “For those with allergy and other concerns, our foods are peanut-free, and many of our products are GMO-free, Gluten-free and Halal compliant.”
The founder of Hero Certified Burgers, John Lettieri also confirms that they use sustainable, Halal beef in their menu. “The beef is totally raised in a sustainable environment, grass fed, no hormones, no antibiotics, no binders, and no fillers. It’s Halal certified, gluten-free, fully traceable — and 100% Canadian.”
“Sustainable restaurant serving all-natural burgers, sides and desserts. Vegetarian, halal and gluten-free options available.”
So, what’s the halal verdict?
Hero Certified Burgers is partially halal as it serves halal certified chicken and beef on its menu.
However, they use strip bacon and beef bacon. Strip bacon is made from pork belly so, if you choose not to add strip bacon to your burger, it’s halal compliant.
This is why we say they it has halal options and is partially halal but it’s not a fully halal chain.
Obviously there are many non-meat items on the menu which halal observers can also consume, such as their:
- Beverages – such as their Strawberry and Chocolate Shakes
- Desserts – such as their Zipp Dessert Smarties and Sundaes, and
- Snacks such as their Tempura Zucchini, Poutine and Onion Rings.
You should always verify the halal status with the restaurant directly just to be sure!
Restaurants change their meat suppliers and their policies constantly.
Furthermore, individual franchise locations change ownership all the time. So one location’s owner can use halal meat but can sell it to a new owner who chooses not to. So, to make sure that you have the latest information — reach out to the establishment!
